Story of a successful transgender service doctor
When it comes to the topic of the transgender community, the scenery of extorting money from the common people in the streets and houses by the transgenders peep through our minds. Generally, this 3rd gender community earns their means of living by begging.
But
now the scenario has changed, many of the transgenders choosing descent jobs
leaving beggary. Some are doing jobs, while others doing business and different
types of work and thus they are gradually becoming self-reliant.
I am Md. Khairul Islam from Oghor Malancho Village,
of Kahalu Upazila, of Bogura District. The name Khairul was kept by my parents
and Khairul Sundori by the Hijra community (Third gender community).
In
the past, I supported myself by extorting money from house to
house. However, after being acquainted with the assistant district manager of
Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation (BONDHU), Kahalu Upazila, Bogura Branch, the
course of my life started changing. He informed me about Bondhu Chula and hearing
from him the Bondhu Chula activities seems good and I became interested to
work. I received training from Bogura District Bondhu Chula office on the
maintenance of Bondhu Chula. After the training, I started setting up and
mending Bondhu Chula in the houses of different villages.
In
the beginning, I started working alone. Later, three more persons joined in the
work of Bondhu Chula. In the beginning, my earnings was low, but gradually my
income increased from 8,000 to 10,000 per month. As a result, now I have
become economically solvent. Nowadays, nobody considers me a burden and I lead
my life with dignity.
To
bring me to this stage, the assistant manager of Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation
(BONDHU), Bogura, MD. Maruf Hossain has contributed the most and I express my
gratitude to him and to the Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation (BONDHU), as well.
