BONDHU Medical Team Provides Healthcare to Flood-Affected Communities

In light of the devastating flash floods impacting the Cumilla and Noakhali districts, the BONDHU Medical Team, part of the Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation (BONDHU) and Bashori - A Nazrul Centre, has successfully launched medical camps to aid affected communities. These efforts have provided free medical assistance and medications to around 2,000 individuals in need.

On August 27, 2024, a medical camp was set up by the BONDHU Medical Team in Nangalkot Upazila, Cumilla, serving approximately 600 people with essential healthcare services. Rongtuli Youth Foundation, a local voluntary organization facilitated the BONDHU Medical Team.

A two-day-long medical camp was also conducted from September 4-5, 2024, in various locations throughout Senbagh Upazila of Noakhali, offering medical aid and medications to about 1,400 individuals. This initiative was organized with the collaboration of the Upazila Social Service Officer and local volunteer groups, who played a vital role in its success.

Community members have expressed heartfelt gratitude for the medical support and medications provided by the BONDHU Medical Team, especially noting that no other medical teams have reached their areas yet. Despite ongoing floodwaters that hinder transportation and access to Upazila Sadar, these medical camps have served as a critical source of relief for many residents.

Doctors participating in the camps have observed a notable increase in skin conditions, fevers, waterborne diseases, and other health issues among the flood victims. They highlighted the essential role of these medical camps in addressing pressing health concerns.

Dr. Engineer Khalequzzaman, founder of BONDHU and Bashori, stated, "In the future, we will continue to implement similar initiatives to support those affected by disasters and ensure their healthcare needs are met." The medical team, including Dr. Suborna Sarker, Dr. Umme Kulsum, Dr. Uday Rahman, Dr. Tania Afrin, Dr. Monjur Rahman, and Mohammad Shah Alam (a fourth-year MBBS student), shared their satisfaction with the positive outcomes achieved through the medical camps.
