Inaugural ceremony of Energy-saving Stove held in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar
On August 7, 2022, the Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation (BONDHU) inaugurated the "Distribution of 1 lakh Energy-saving Stoves," through a ceremony in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar, a crucial initiative that will benefit the Rohingya refugees and local Bengali families. Dr. Engineer Khalequzzaman, the Program Manager of BONDHU, graced this significant event alongside staff of BONDHU and esteemed local dignitaries.
The ceremony marked the commencement of the energy-saving stove project by distributing portable stoves. These stoves are specially designed to cater to the needs of the Rohingya refugees and local families.
The alarming deforestation in Cox's Bazar, causing by the excessive cutting down of trees by the Rohingya refugees, has triggered adverse environmental impacts, prompting the Bangladesh government to supply LPG gas to mitigate the energy crisis. However, despite these efforts, both local communities and refugees continue to struggle with fuel shortages. To address this challenge, BONDHU launched the Energy-saving Stove project, aiming to bridge this energy gap.
The primary objective of this initiative is twofold: Addressing the escalating energy demand in Cox's Bazar and its surrounding areas and curbing the environmental degradation resulting from the refugee situation. Spanning from 2022 to 2023, this project embodies a commitment to sustainable energy solutions and environmental stewardship.
