Seminar on Tree Plantation held at Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar
The Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation
(BONDHU) organized a seminar on tree plantation on September 17, 2023, at the
ICDDR, B Seminar Room in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar.
The event was graced by Mr. Alhaj Fajlul Karim Saeedi, the Upazila Chairman of Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, who attended as the chief guest. Mr. Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad, Assistant Conservator of Forest, joined as the special guest, while Shreya Dutta, Manager of Carbon Offset Project at VNV Advisory Services Ltd., was present as the guest of honor. Besides, the chairmen of all union parishads were esteemed guests at the event.
The speakers emphasized the significance of tree planting and engaged in discussions about various local challenges and opportunities related to this endeavor. Dr. Engr. Khalequzzaman, the Founder and Program Manager of the Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation, chaired the event. He highlighted the foundation's projects and underscored the importance of tree planting, elucidating the rationale behind the project's title, "Climate-friendly Tree Plantation." Dr. Khalequzzaman emphasized that not all trees are suitable for our climate, citing the example of the Eucalyptus tree, which is not included in the Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation's list of 50 trees due to its unsuitability and detrimental effects on the environment. He discouraged the planting of Eucalyptus saplings, emphasizing its harmful impact. The seminar concluded with the delivery of the closing speech of Dr. Engr. Khalequzzaman.
